Curling Club History

The Cambridge Curling Club (originally known as the Gateway Curling Club of Cambridge, Inc.) was founded in 1974. The co-founders were Tom Satrom and C. Odell
“Doc” Johnson. The other original members of the club, signed up and paid dues to participate in a sport that very few had even heard of, and that none had actually played. But all of the original members were more than willing to donate their time and some materials to get the first sheet of ice ready to play. The Isanti County Fair Board was instrumental by permitting the club to use one of its buildings (used to show hogs at the fair) for the first season.

The first year ended with a bonspiel, and the enthusiasm everyone showed was harnessed into a plan to have a new building with four sheets of ice the following year, 1975. The Fair Board again became a great ally by agreeing to construct a brand new building that they could use.

Thus, by the fall of 1976, the club had four sheets of artificial ice and brand new rocks. Many bonds have been formed on and off the ice since that time, but perhaps none as tight as the bond between those original members who sacrificed themselves and their time to see this club get off the ground.  Enjoy

Our club is located on Highway 95, east of downtown Cambridge on the Isanti County Fairgrounds.

Directions

From Mpls:
Highway 65 north (approx. 30 miles) to Highway 95 exit at Cambridge. East on 95 approx. ¾ mile to Flanders St. Left at light, 1 block to curling club on right. (Across Hghiway 95 from Menards).

From St. Paul:
Interstate 35 north to North Branch exit (Hiway 95). West on Highway 95 approx. 13 miles to Cambridge. Right at 1st Stoplite (Flanders St.) 1 block to curling club on right.
